Benson Sengchanh (Year 8, 2026)
1. How long have you been playing basketball, and what inspired you to start?
3 years. I started playing because I was asked to cover for an injured friend. I really enjoyed it and I just continued on.
2. What position do you play, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I play shooting Guard. I like it because I get to take outside jump shots.
3. Can you share a memorable moment from your time with the Bally Basketball school?
I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of the Div 1 team. Even though it’s super competitive, training and playing with my mates is heaps of fun. Even when we lose our games, we always have a good time.
4. What’s your proudest basketball moment?
In our first game, we straight up got smashed by the reigning champs. And basically the whole season they kept beating us by heaps. No body thought we had a chance in the grand final either… but we came back from behind and actually won. That was sick.
5. How do you balance basketball with your academic responsibilities?
I have a schedule for bball training and for study but I probably play more basketball than study. lol
6. Who is your favourite professional basketball player and why?
Kevin Durant (KD) because he can do everything.
7. Who is your favourite NBA team?
The Nuggets.
8. What personal goals have you set for yourself this year?
I want to keep playing my best at the highest level. So I am going to train hard to keep my spot on my team. But i also enjoy giving other sports a go too.
9. How do you prepare mentally and physically for games?
Mentally I listen to music before games. Physically – I have started weight training.
10. What do you think sets the Bally Basketball program apart from others?
It’s a big family. We have great coaches and there’s always family and friends around. At games we always cheer when Bally teams are playing no matter what division is on Court.
11. How has being part of the Bally team impacted your overall experience at Bally Boys High School?
I’ve made so many new friends being part of the Bally team. Not just my team mates, but also those who play in other divisions and age groups.
12. Do you have any advice for younger students who aspire to join the basketball program?
Its not size or talent that matters. Its hard work and remembering to have fun.
